Arboricultural Method Statement:
An Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) is a detailed document that outlines the practical measures and procedures that will be implemented to protect trees during the construction process. It is often requested as a condition of planning approval.
Key Elements:
Protective Barriers and Fencing: Specifies the type and location of tree protection fencing in accordance with BS5837 guidelines. This is critical to safeguard trees and their RPAs throughout the project.
Construction Activity Management: Outlines measures to avoid damage from construction machinery, material storage, and other site activities that could harm the trees.
Excavation and Groundworks Near Trees: Detailed procedures on how to carry out necessary works (e.g., digging or trenching) near trees without damaging their roots or affecting their stability. It may include special construction techniques such as hand digging, VacEx and/or air spades.
Site Monitoring and Supervision: Identifies when an arboricultural consultant will be required on-site to monitor works, ensuring compliance with the AMS and addressing any unforeseen risks to tree health.
Post-Construction Recommendations: Advises on tree care following construction, such as mulching, watering, or any additional treatment to mitigate the effects of construction stress.
